It’s hard to tell exactly what you’re doing at full speed, and YouTube doesn’t have slow-motion; could you describe this technique?
It is essentially the exact opposite of pushing. When you push to gain speed, you extend your leg through the hip and knee using your muscles to put power down and give you kinetic energy (ie. accelerate). For a stepping stop you contract the leg at the hip and knee joint and use your leg muscles to soak up your kinetic energy (ie. decelerate).
